Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 October 2026

Ahlu Sunnah ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Ahlu Sunnah mobile application and website (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the App, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Account details: If you choose to create an account, we collect your email address and a display name.
  • Optional profile data: Settings you save, such as your prayer zone, reading streak, and bookmarks.
  • Support requests: Any information you provide when contacting us.

Information collected automatically:

  • Usage data: Aggregate, anonymised analytics about which features are used, to help us improve the App.
  • Device data: Device type, operating system version, and language preference.
  • Location (optional): If you grant permission, your approximate location is used solely to calculate accurate prayer times for your area. Location data is not stored on our servers.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the App's features, including the Quran reader, hadith collections, duas, and prayer times.
  • To process voluntary donations through our payment provider, Stripe.
  • To respond to support enquiries and feedback.
  • To improve the App's content, performance, and user experience.
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues or abuse.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone. Your information is used only to operate and improve the App, and is never disclosed to any external party for their own purposes. Access to your personal data within our team is restricted to authorised administrators only, solely for operating the App and reviewing aggregate analytics.

3. Recitation and Hifz Recordings

When you use the recitation checker, or Hifz (memorisation) practice, the audio you submit is used solely to advance and improve our AI recitation assessment — no other purpose. Improving the AI happens in aggregate on our own systems, from anonymised acoustic voice measurements and the word forms that have been confirmed as valid readings.

Your recordings are never distributed. They are not sold, rented, published, licensed, or shared with any third party for that party's own purposes, and no recording is ever made public. Access is limited to authorised administrators solely for operating and improving the App.

You remain in control of them: recordings are stored privately to your account, and deleting a recording, or your account, removes it and the lesson it contributed from our systems.

4. Payments

Voluntary donations are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card details on our servers. Stripe handles all payment information in accordance with its own privacy and security standards. We receive only confirmation of the transaction and the last four digits of the card used.

5. Third-Party Services

The App relies on trusted third-party services to deliver its features, including:

  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • Quran and Hadith APIs — to fetch Quranic text, translations, tafsirs, and hadith collections.
  • AI language services — to answer your questions about Quran and hadith.
  • Analytics providers — to understand aggregate usage patterns.

These providers process data strictly to deliver the feature you requested (for example, processing a payment). We share only the minimum information needed for that function, and we never sell or disclose your personal information to any third party for their own use.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is encrypted both in transit (using HTTPS/TLS) and at rest on our hosting provider's infrastructure. Access to your personal information is restricted to authorised administrators only — no other party can read it. We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention and Account Deletion

We retain your account information and saved content only for as long as your account is active. Recitation recordings in your personal library are retained until you delete them.

When you delete your account, all of your personal information is permanently erased from our database. This includes your account, bookmarks, submissions, and any other records tied to you — everything is deleted and cannot be recovered. You can delete your account at any time through the App's settings. Please note that our payment provider, Stripe, maintains its own separate transaction records independently of the App, and those are governed by Stripe's own privacy policy.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. To exercise these rights, or to opt out of analytics, contact us at the details below.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

11. Contact Us

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact us through the App's support or feedback channels.
